UPCOMING NOVEMBER WELLNESS WEEKEND

21st-24th November | Ocean of Awareness

Immerse yourself in a soul-nourishing journey of Jivamukti yoga and inspired experiences, set against the breathtaking coastline of Watamu. Over the course of the weekend, weโ€™ll explore the ocean โ€” both around us and within us โ€” through Jivamuktiโ€™s five tenets, blending movement, mindfulness, and meaningful connection.

Led by Bettina Bachmann (visiting teacher)

The Five Tenets of Jivamukti

  1. Ahimsa (Non-Harming): Reflect on the state of our oceans, the impact of overfishing, and how conscious living โ€” including plant-based choices โ€” can be an act of compassion for all beings.

  2. Bhakti (Devotion): Honour the tides with offerings, engage in selfless service, and connect with initiatives like Bahari Hai that protect our marine world.

  3. Nada (Sound): Let the rhythm of the waves guide you, as we practice chanting and listen deeply to the sounds of the sea.

  4. Dhyana (Meditation): Sit by the ocean in stillness, or explore japa meditation with a water focus, allowing the vastness of the sea to inspire inner calm.

  5. Shastra (Scripture): Delve into stories and texts that reveal the oceanโ€™s role in creation, cleansing, and transformation.

Flow through energising asana practices, swim in turquoise waters, meditate with the sunrise,

and let the oceanโ€™s wisdom deepen your connection to self and the world.

What is Jivamukti Yoga?

The Jivamukti method is deeply rooted in ancient yoga practices incorporating them into a modern lifestyle. Jivamukti is grounded in the original meaning of the Sanskrit word asana as โ€œseat, connectionโ€ โ€“ relationship of earth, which implies all of life. The practice of asana becomes more than mere physical exercise; it becomes a way to improve oneโ€™s relationship to all others and thus lead to the realization of the oneness of being, the discovery of lasting happiness.

A typical Jivamukti class incorporates the five tenets of Jivamukti Yoga: shastra (scripture), bhakti (devotion), ahimsa (kindness), nada (music) and dhyana (meditation) by presenting classical yoga teachings as relevant to one's life on and off the mat. Every class is unique!

Jivamukti Yoga was founded in 1984 by Sharon Gannon and David Life and aims to reintegrate the physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of yoga. Sharon and David are disciples of Sri Brahmananada Sarasvati, Swami Nirmalanda and Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.
